Review of Dave (1993) by Mike H — 05 Mar 2010
Ivan Reitman weaves a few thin threads together into one movie: a formulaic drama, a formulaic romantic comedy, and a formulaic political call-to-arms, which by the way has no teeth; the political aim extends only far enough to make a veiled generalized statement about how everyone should be employed (by the way, there are only two ways to acheive that goal: (1) eliminate minimum wage; or (2) enact communism; both options would make sweet love to the middle class until it could no longer stand up).
Dave is slow, unexciting, and not nearly as charming as it tries to be.
