Review of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) by Cameron A — 30 Nov 2018
This is a slower paced, but rewarding, drama. It involves action and fantasy elements, but this takes what was a fun and riveting first installment and increases the scale and depth of the material to create a serious drama, The acting is brilliant and award-worthy, the visuals are stunning and the story itself is well-written.
It has its beautiful and entertaining set-pieces, but also its intimate sequences of drama and character development that takes the risk of slowing down in its pace (though this never is a detriment to the film).
This is one of the best epics of recent years.
