Review of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) by Merijn J — 22 Dec 2017
It is rare for main characters to be this completely boring and devoid of any emotion. We were so board we actually turned this off halfway through, which is unusual. The ape main character, Caesar, is just grumpy all the time.
The main human character, Malcolm, looks around dumbly. The kid looks scared. Koba is angry. Maurice is wise. Carver is a jerk. Ellie takes care of people. This is the extent of character development.
On top of this, the story is boring and doesn't really take advantage of any unique aspects of the premise. The apes have basically been turned into primitive humans. So...what? Oh, and then there are betrayals and fights and stuff.
