Review of Dead Like Me: Life After Death (2009) by Floyd C — 05 Nov 2010
On its own this isn't half bad, when you sit it next to the two seasons the show had it isn't that great. There were pros and cons of course, I definitely liked the film enough to buy it and add it to my collection, but, I think it felt more like an overly long and simplified episode of the show. As you can imagine, longer shouldn't mean simplified. sarah Wynter, the replacement for Laura harris as daisy was horrid. not only was she uneven and over-the-top at times, but she managed to make the character a two dimensional replica of what Harris had presented during her time on the show. I disliked Wynter immensley and hated every scene she was in. Henry Ian Cusick, who replaces the character of Rube, wasn't a favorite of mine either, butthat had more to do with the plot than his acting. The character wasn't fleshed out at all and really had no reason to be in the film for more than five minutes.
All that aside, I will say that all of the returning cast was great. I loved the way they tied up several loose ends from the show. I think the character of Reggie was my favorite in the film and Britt McKillip has grown up a lot which allowed the role to expand into so much more. the story that happens between Reggie and her mother is great and the other connections reggie manages to make are nice as well, though, as is the case with everything in the film, things are barely explored before the final credits roll.
Overall, I'd say if you were a fan of the show you should watch it. Undoubtedly, you will find many flaws, but at the end of the day it's nice to see the cast together (mostly) again and get some concluding comments on what happened in the show.
