Review of Dead Space: Downfall (2008) by Erno K — 26 May 2011
After finishing the game it was time to get some more background information on the events surrounding the Marker. If you have no idea what a Marker is, you should not watch this film.
The animation quality is once again lacking, but that is to be expected of these additional promo materials. They make them hasty-like. The feeling and atmosphere however are very close to the game. This is actually even more brutal, but the cartoon violence has much less impact than the game's polished visual effects. Being there yourself kinda enhances the feeling as well.
It is weird but fascinating to see the familiar places and enemies again, but in a cartoon setting. The enemies especially have been very meticulously copied from the game. Boy I wish I had had those light saber thingys in the game! It's only fun to carve critters with an industrial saw so long. Need some variation.
The sound design and music greatly enhance the film. Both are efficiently creepy and similar to the game. It sounded exactly like that time I was on Ishimura fighting those necromorphs. Good times.
