Review of Death on the Nile (2022) by Dawdlingpoet — 07 May 2022
I thought this film was both random and interesting in 2 respects, regarding the cast:- 1) Dawn French & Jennifer Saunders (aka French & Saunders) are in it and also 2) Russell Brand is in it, playing probably the most straight laced male character I've ever seen him play (i.e. not a manic show off, love obsessed type). Brand was surprisingly good, very believable, in his role.
The film also features some nice sunset/sunrise type shots, which I liked. The plot is a bit 'messy' I'd say. Quite a lot is covered but im not sure every question that the film raises is fully answered. It's certainly a relatively entertaining film - I suppose it is fairly atmospheric, although by no means a particularly substantial film, its good enough to pass the time and it's worth a watch if the cast interests you. Also, of course, it goes without saying that if you don't care for Brannagh's interpretation of Poirot's accent, then this will bother you and you may be better looking for an alternative film.
It felt a bit cliched but, accent aside, its pretty watchable and alright in general.
