Review of Deep Water (2022) by Mauro_Lanari — 26 Mar 2022
(Mauro Lanari).
An adaptation of the 1957 novel of the same name written by Patricia Highsmith, Lyne's "Deep Water" moves away from his erotic thrillers and proposes a marital ménage ("Gone Girl", Fincher 2014) in the style of P.T. Anderson, that is to say based on the mutual complicit domination that cancels the dimorphism between the two (Affleck is 192 cm tall, de Armas 168). In the movie he defines her a schizophrenic and she calls him a psychopath, both express their possessive passion desiring themselves for who they are, he a beautiful, rich, intelligent macho, death trafficker and murderer, she a chica caliente, provocative nymphomaniac who loves to betray her husband to enjoy his humiliating jealous revenge. Indissoluble empedoclean interweaving between Thanatos and Eros enshrined by the 6-year-old daughter who understands the high-bourgeois family affair and subscribes to it, it bores and does not seduce even when Melinda sings at the piano "Via con me" by Paolo Conte, chansonnier who in turn now entertains more with his craft than with art.
