Review of Destroyer (2018) by Cecilia M — 06 Jan 2019
From time to time I wonder why actors choose the roles they play. I'm sure many time it's merely for the money, other times they jiust wanted to escape a stereotype and still others truly believe it's a great script.
In the case of the Destroyer, the only excuse I can come up with for Nicole Kidman is that she's watched the success of Charlize Theron and wanted the same for her. Unfortunately she's chosen a script featuring a depressing monotone character in a world of unrealistic stereotypes.
Dull, over the top performances, a music track that belonged in Lawrence of Arabia and a plot that is simply obtuse. It's sad to see a fine actress reduced to a blithering sick gargoyle .
