Review of Disenchanted (2022) by Metabones — 06 Apr 2023
All the talent in the world couldn't make up for how uninspired and bland this long-awaited sequel felt. I would've preferred to see a protagonist that has thoroughly changed and become hardened by the real world on a quest to reignite the child-like innocence and sense of adventure she had in the first film.
Instead, we got a story that's thematically not executed clearly, with forgettable characters, and just uninteresting ideas to offer. I was wanting to like the film since I loved the first but every turn the film made was just a missed opportunity for something genuinely great.
The first few disappointments in the first hour of the film were sad, and the latter half with more disappointments started to make me angry that such little time and effort was put into the script.
