Review of Django (1966) by Daniel K — 20 Nov 2010
2: Interesting, I suppose, but a poor excuse for a western in my opinion. The most interesting part of the film, of course, are the subtle errors the Italians make. Almost nothing is quite right, at least by American western standards.
The Italians had their own rules and their own interpretations and they are certainly on display here. The actual story is fairly straightforward, simple, and expected. The performances are fairly standard, as is just about everything else.
It's a western, but a fairly forgettable one. The violence reminded me of The Wild Bunch, but this was about as distinguished as the film got.
