Review of Doctor Strange (2016) by Cole S — 16 Aug 2017
The story itself is as generic of an origin story as one could possibly imagine and doesn't introduce us to anything we haven't seen a thousand times before, leaving you with little to hold your interest in that department.
The cast, on the other hand, is fantastic and although there are a number of actors who would have looked better in the titular superhero's signature cape, Cumberbatch's performance is magnetic and outweighs any concerns about his appearance.
Where the film really shines, however, is with the VFX that are mind-boggling (quite literally) giving us something that looks like a mix of 'Inception', 'The Matrix' and 'Harry Potter', all combined and used to great effect in a number of excellent and thrilling action sequences.
Overall, it is a well-acted, action-packed superhero film that is entertaining, but certainly not unique or special.
