Review of Don't Breathe (2016) by Anna V — 11 Aug 2018
There are a few good things, Stephan Lang gives a pretty threatening performance, the visuals are not bad, and the concept of not breathing otherwise you'll die in this house is a great idea. However, a good idea doesn't make a good movie. I was kind of intrigued by the idea that it was just these three guys trying to escape this scary man's house. The first two thirds I felt were quite underplayed in the scares and I figured could have used for creative uses with the camera or the editing. Then we get to the third act. The "twist" sticks out like a soar thumb. It is a very uncomfortable turn of events and in a good way. The movie also really drags on from there. Chances are many people will disagree with me given the praise this movie has gotten, but for me, this movie just lacks in scares and even chills.
Sum Up: It is a great concept that in execution it did not work for me.
