Review of Don't Breathe (2016) by Inu4Sh4 — 16 Nov 2020
Don't Breathe is a perfect example of how to create an atmospheric and gripping thriller. You don't need jump scares or monsters when you have such a simple yet unsettling horror concept. The movies also include a few unpredictable and disturbing twists giving more depth and some thought-provoking themes even.
The characters had interesting personalities and believable motivations overall except for Money. The narrative was pretty good but the movie still suffers from a few anticlimactic or cliche scenes as well. Another small complaint I have is that the beginning of the movie wasn't that great but I suppose it was necessary to give some humanity and a different perspective into the trio of thief protagonists.
My overall opinion is that Don't Breathe is a remarkable horror movie that sticks to a very simple concept yet executes it almost perfectly except for a few missteps I've mentioned previously in this review.
