Review of Doom (2005) by Joshua M — 01 Oct 2018
"DOOM" (when referring to the games) is about a brutal killing spree against demonic forces, leaving nothing but a massacre in your path. The universe of the game also serves its fans with twisted backstories and simplistic storytelling that doesn't get in the way, allowing players to experience total savagery with the excitement of blowing away demons with multiple weapons while understanding the reason and purpose of their presence.
So when it comes to the movie "DOOM", you would expect it to deliver this kind of service to old school veterans of the games and modern fans; however, it doesn't. It's lacklustre and the plot is a mess, making it feel utterly irrelevant to the "DOOM" title itself as it feels you're watching an entirely different movie altogether.
If the production was focused on what fans expected in the first place, it could have been an incredibly fun movie. I'd just stick with the games.
