Review of Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019) by Afm185 — 21 Jun 2020
It’s aight. I wouldn’t say it’s bad, but I wouldn’t quite describe it as good either. The events in the movie are entertaining enough, but nearly every bit of it is flawed. Dora and her parents are the only enjoyable characters.
Everyone else is kinda annoying and the dialogue in general is pretty bad but it’s not exactly helped by some not so great acting. Diego used to be my favorite so it wasn’t great to see how boring he is as a teenager.
And his relationship with the girl sucks. And with Dora honestly. I get why the other kids were there but why? Dora Diego and older guy would’ve been fine if they’d just created an interesting dynamic.
The other two provide basically nothing other than some awkward lines and interactions. Feels really fake and unfunny at times. I mean some of Dora’s lines are cute but still not great. Also I think Swiper should’ve played a bigger role.
The way he is as a character is really, really strange in context to everything else. No other animals can talk except him and everyone’s just like yeah ok. And it’s not played to a comedic effect it’s just presented as normal.
And they don’t do anything with him which kinda sucks. The story is just ok. It’s super basic and it feels very familiar. It’s fine. No more no less.
