The critics are wrong: this is a fascinating and unusual black comedy that uses a sci-fi framework to explore what it is to be human and alive to the dangers of possibility. Alexander Payne takes huge risks with tone and narrative and should be applauded.
Likewise, he elicits wonderful performances from Damon, Waltz and Chau. Funny, surprising and thought-provoking: what more could you want from a movie?
