Review of Edge of Darkness (1943) by Rj M — 30 Aug 2013
Mel Gibson's return to the big screen is a fairly mediocre thriller. Edge Of Darkness is a mess in terms of plot and story. I feel bad for Mel here. He is trying his best but he has absolutely nothing to work with.
Martin Campbell has directed both Casino Royale and Goldeneye so going into this film I was expecting something good. This is not the case here because his directing is sloppy. The plot for this film started off strong but as the film progressed, it became incredibly convoluted and honestly uninteresting.
Mel Gibson delivers a very strong performance and he is the only reason why I am giving this such a high rating. Martin Campbell should stick to Bond films as he is not fit to direct anything else. I'm a huge fan of Mel and I really wanted to like this, however, I could not look to past the absurd amount of flaws this film has.
Edge Of Darkness is not a film I would recomend and those looking for a good thriller should definately skip this.
