Review of Eighth Grade (2018) by Jon C — 03 Aug 2018
Let's face it: not all of us have such an easy time in eighth grade, heck not all of us are equipped to handle all the fear and pressures of adolescence.
But that's what director Bo Burnam does amazingly capturing the dreaded phase of teenage years.
Newcomer Elsie Fisher plays Kayla, she keeps to herself a lot of the time and makes online videos to give people advice on how to be themselves even when she's struggling to do so.
Eighth grade can feel like the worst especially when you have to make friends, leave an impact on others and just basically survive.
It's never easy and can be scary at times but you always have to roll with it cause one day it will be over.
Elsie Fisher is spectacular being the point of view for most of us at that age in our lives.
The movie isn't streamlined narratively well since certain plot points are abandoned and you wish you could see her progress.
Still both her and Burnam portray as realistic a picture of middle school.
