Review of El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019) by Muldjord — 14 Oct 2019
A lot of it works and a lot of it doesn't. Aaron Pauls perfomance is top-notch and keeps you interested through most of it. The look-backs are decent and there are some cool scenes here and there. Unfortunately the plot overall is quite thin and often almost dull.
We are introduced to characters who were part of the original show. Some were memorable enough that you recall what they did and in those cases it plays well into El Camino's story. But a big emphasis is also put on lesser known characters that I couldn't remember at all. The movie does try to remind us slightly. But ultimately it wastes too much time trying to make us dislike them enough that we don't loose interest in the plot they are part of. And that's when things start falling slightly apart. I simply didn't care enough about it to keep me interested.
So basically it's a fan service movie more than anything else. It simply wraps up Jesse's story. And it does so fairly well.
