Review of Elemental (2023) by Theirrelephants — 20 Jun 2023
This is possibly the best "children's film" I have seen in ages, and before you disagree please read the rest of this review since I know most people here will hate it for completely understandable reasons.
First off, while the movie superficially paints itself as an anti-racist, hyper woke social commentary - for anyone looking below the surface this movie is basically racial nationalist propaganda. Hitler would have LOVED it.
That heart wrenching scene where the poor fire dad and his fire elemental daughter get turned away by an earth land lord? How horrible, how racist... except... they almost set the house on fire by TOUCHING THE DOOR BELL. Would you rent to someone who would burn your apartment complex down with the simple act of stepping inside of it? Yeah, neither would anyone else.
Then we have another great scene where the fire dad is taking fire daughter to a plant exhibit, and they're turned away at the door. Can you guess why? If you said it was because "they would have set the whole thing on fire" then you were RIGHT! The superficial thing here is that racism is bad, and actually you should destroy everything you've ever accomplished just so you don't hurt the feelings of people that look, act, and are fundamentally different from yourself. As no one actually believes this in real life (even the people who claim to), it comes across as very pro-racism.
Another cute scene involves two water people destroying the property of fire people and giggling while they do it. This is the presumably 'good' act, for those of you who haven't caught it on yet. When the fire people chase them out of the store and scream at them for malicious property destruction? Why, they're just being mean for no reason! I wonder how many 'youths' will see this scene and realize why convenience store owners watch them every time they enter the store? Probably not many. The 'youth' aren't very bright, you see.
I could go on, but while this movie had me laughing so hard I cried I do have other things to do so I'll wrap it up.
The final and best argument actually involves the movie's main couple, a girl made out of fire and a guy made out of water. In other words, if they so much as hugged at least one of them would be committing homicide at best. At worst, it's a suicide murder.
They should have titled this movie: "Pixar: Why we hate race mixing and why you should too.
