Review of Elvis & Nixon (2016) by Jean S — 05 Aug 2017
I had to watch this twice just to make sure it was as good as I thought it was. Does it blow anyone else's mind to see Kevin Spacey's range extends to a portrayal of Nixon? Does anyone else realize the little "throwaway lines" Nixon says are all actual Nixon quotes? He really did say "on the sauce," and "one hand washes the other.
" Maybe not all in the same afternoon, but still. Super soundtrack. This was fun fun fun to watch! I only have one little tiny criticism...that early on in the seventies you would not have heard "hot" used on a girl yet.
Not in 1970. And..."Down," in 1970? Eh...not yet. But the hilarity of Sonny and Jerry giving the White House staff "The Rundown," while simultaneously Elvis is getting the protocol talk on meeting the President is, well, far out, man.
It's not a five star movie, it's a solid four and a half star movie. Did anyone else notice Cary Elwes in the writing credits? Oh, and if you watch it on Amazon, you'll get the trivia notes with it and they are very entertaining too.
