Review of Encounters at the End of the World (2007) by Natalie M — 28 May 2012
Werner goes to Antarctica with a bit of a chip on his shoulder, grousing about the damnable penguin movie. Even he is unable to resist the cute little buggers, of course, but the penguin featured in his movie is a suicidal maverick, leaving the flock to waddle off to distant mountains and certain death.
This travelogue is not as daring as Herzog's other efforts (he indulges in only one brief flight of fancy, where he imagines alien archaeologists sifting through human ruins at the south pole) but features so many memorable sights and characters that it's impossible to carp. Homeboy should have a show on the travel channel. The Food Network wants a new star? I present "Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe".
