Review of Everything Is Illuminated (2005) by Aimee A — 03 May 2010
The book is one of my favorites ever and I re-read it every year. It just combines comedy and tragedy so effectively making it memorizing. I can't say enough kind words about it. It is very dear to me.
As for the film adaptation, it did not disappoint. Elijah carried the torch as the role of Jonathan, in all honesty I could not see anyone else playing the part. Eugene Hutz was incredible! He made a charming supporting star.
The settings were perfectly picked out and it just gave it a whole whimsical feeling that I loved. The scenes with the sunflowers was so breathtaking that it could be a photograph on its own. Liev Shreiber did an absolutely fantastic job! I can't understand why anyone would not think so.
I didn't feel it was flat at all and it was immensely enjoyable. I want to see it again very soon.
