Review of Excalibur (1981) by Alex D — 01 Jul 2018
Excalibur is still fabulous after all these years. The script is a deft compression of Malory's tangled, complex rendering of the Arthurian legends, and is entirely faithful to the book's spirit.
The acting is thoroughly enjoyable: every player is ernest. The visuals are the best of what pre-CGI effects had to offer (and they are STILL more convincing, not to mention cheaper, than CGI effects), shot among beautiful green hills and glades of Ireland.
Watch Excalibur when you're calm and receptive to something mythical, romantic, honest and ernest.
