Review of Executioners from Shaolin (1977) by Kevin R — 14 Feb 2016
I was just joking...but what I said was true...
The Manchu have taken over the Chinese landscape and only a few Shaolin remain in existence. A male and female who have both lost family members to the Manchu join forces to take down one of the Manchu's primary enforcers, Pai Mai. Pai Mai is the most lethal man on the planet, and commands an army. How can two people take down a militia and the best martial artist on the planet?
"His weakest times are between 1 and 3...only then you can kill him.".
Chia-Liang Liu, director of The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, My Young Auntie, The Legend of the Drunken Master, Return to the 36th Chamber, and The 8 Diagram Pole Fighter, delivers Executioners for Shaolin. The storyline for this picture is fairly cliché but well executed. The martial arts is excellent and the acting is solid. The cast include Lo Leih, Gordon Liu, and Kuan Tai Chen.
"I wonder where that poor bastard has gone to.".
I recently came across this on Netflix and watched again for the first time in a long time. This is a classic martial arts picture with the legendary Pai Mai played by Gordon Liu. This isn't my favorite Gordon Liu or Chia-Liang Liu film, but it is worth a viewing and worth owning if you're a fan of the martial arts genre.
"We're your blood, brother...".
Grade: B.
