Review of Fan (2016) by Yash B — 16 Jan 2019

Any part of "Fan" that works is due to Shah Rukh Khan's committed performance. He does a good job playing both characters. I also thought the visual effects and makeup team did a good job in this movie because the story is almost believable at times.

I think the concept of this movie is actually very interesting, but the execution is slightly disappointing. This is primarily due to tonal inconsistencies in the movie's final act. It felt like it wasn't sure of what sort of message it wanted to send.

I think if it focused up a bit more on being a cautionary tale about not putting celebrities on a pedestal, it could have been a more effective movie. However, I felt the movie was unsure about the message it wanted to send.

It's a passable thriller that I would say is fine to check out once but I feel there is a great movie trapped in here somewhere.
