Review of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) by Xander M — 21 Nov 2018
Other than Crimes of Grindelwald this is the worst Wizarding World movie. It is a good movie and has many things going for it. It has a more magical focused quality that I have not seen since the Philosopher's Stone. It does a good job of building the magical universe in a 1920 setting. Newt is a good main character but the best character in the film is definitely Jacob, the muggle. He provides the comic relief and pretty much is the audience. He reacted in a genuine way that mirrors what the audience felt. The love interest of Newt is uniteresting and Jacob's love interest was fared better. The villain, Credence is horrible and really bad. I cannot believe the focus of the sequel is on him. Colin Farrell is good and frankly better than Johnny Depp. #bringbackcolinfarrell.
Overall 7/10.
