Newt Scamander is an endearing new protagonist (and, thankfully, not at all a carbon copy of Harry Potter) whose social awkwardness does not detract from his kind heart. Fantastic Beasts leads us further into the magical world with a well-paced, visually stunning but ultimately still very human plot.
In my opinion, J.K. Rowlings has found her medium in the screenplay.
