Review of Far from the Madding Crowd (2015) by Late R — 18 Aug 2017
I really do like a good period drama, but this just isn't one. It's hard to pin down exactly what it was that didn't work for me, but I want to say that it's the fact that every character feels like an extremely bland version of who they should have been, as well as a misguided attempt at squashing far too many events into too little time, thereby not allowing enough room for the complex emotions involved to breathe.
In the end, it just feels rushed and not nearly as affecting as it should have been.
