Review of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) by Michael B — 05 May 2012
When I first saw this movie, I had no idea what to make of it. It was loud, ugly, and seemed kind of aimless. However, at some point I ended up watching it over again, and I saw it for what it was. It was supposed to be ugly, it was supposed to be repulsive, and it was supposed to be alienating.
Because what this movie, and the book it was based on, was intended to do was show how ugly, repulsive, and alienating the American Dream has become. It's not always pleasant, but it's always entertaining and has since become one of my favorites.
