Review of First Man (2018) by David B — 13 Oct 2018
Ill start with the bad.
Man oh man this film dragged, I was half tempted to go buy a coffee and pour it on myself to se if I was still alive. Sorry but it was boring.
I've only seen Ryan Gosling in one other film which was blade runner and I liked that, it grew on me. But Gosling just played the same character in this, a guy who broods and keeps it all wrapped up apart from short bursts of over-emotion. The back to the dull stare. Ugh.
The good.
Well the space flighty bits were excellent, on the big screen they really take you there and for all Goslings lack of charisma Clair Foy was brilliant, a much more interesting character by a long way and she totally upstaged him. I wonder if they were paid the same?
