Probably the greater accuracy is replicating a spectator's viewpoint of the titular opera singer asking for today's audience's opinion on the singing, reinforced with her own through an empathic direction that speaks both bookends of optimism and criticism. Both kinds of performances and the craft of storytelling resulted wonderfully, powered by Streep's ever tuning performance. (A-).
