Review of Force Majeure (2014) by Jc E — 18 Jun 2016
A different name, "Turist", is the name in Norway. Not since the "Outlook Hotel" in Kubrick's "The Shining" have a film set in high altitude captured my undivided attention.
Instead of in the alps of Colorado, this film is set in a luxurious ski resort in the French alps. A Norwegian-Swedish family taking a 5 day ski vacation turned into high drama when the bravery, masculine credibility to protect one's wife and kids were challenged by a controlled avalanche.
Superb and engrossing story even if it was simple yet complex. Typically European that is void of Hollywood style gratuitous garnishings, yet so much more interesting when the story focus on human relationships and drama.
Once an avid Slalom skier myself, this 2 hour film does not inspire me to pick up my skis again.
