One of the best Civil War-era films I have ever seen. Superior script, theme, cast, direction and production. Matthew McConaughey delivered an Oscar-worthy performance here. The script is a harmonious marriage of philosophically powerful dialogue and exciting action, none of which ever feels overplayed or out of place.
This is one of my favorite movies of the decade.
