Review of Freedom Writers (2007) by Matthew M — 09 Oct 2013
20. I must have watched this movie at least twenty times in high school. I swear it had to be the only movie that our teachers were allowed to show. Whenever we had a substitute or the teacher just didn't feel like teaching, they would always pop Freedom Writers in.
The remarkable thing is that not only did I never get tired of it but no one else did either. This movie had the magical power of silencing the most rowdy of classes and turning them into emotional wrecks.
I can't help but credit this movie for being one of the reasons that even though my school was so integrated, I hardly ever ran into racism. This movie was powerful for me and it's always going to stick with me.
I'm proud to have it on my top 20 list.
