Review of Friday the 13th Part III (1982) by Private U — 03 Nov 2008
Probably one of my favorite entries in the series; if only because it's the debut of Jason's iconic hockey mask. It's also in 3D, which is kind of a nice gimmick, even though a lot of the film's attempts to put the 3D effects to good use, are wasted and kind of lame.
.. especially without the glasses. The kills involving the 3D effects are pretty cool, though (especially one set-piece that is particularly eye-popping). I just wish that they would stop with the mini-updates, which are basically just 5 to 10 minute re-caps of the ending of the previous film.
What I do like about this series, is that each entry seems to get better and more interesting; there are a few minor slip-ups in the 5th and 9th entries, but I'll get to that later. Jason also seems to get more aggressive and evil as the sequels go on, and that helps distance him from the unfortunate "mama's boy" label.
Speaking of which, another thing that I liked about this film, is the cameo by Mrs. Voorhees' corpse. Not the greatest sequel ever, but a pretty solid entry for fans of the series.
