Review of Furious 7 (2015) by Matt B — 12 Apr 2017
The Fast and the Furious series will go down as the most ridiculous, preposterous, unbelievably over-the-top action franchise in the history of cinema. Cars fly through buildings and down cliffs and blow up and people walk out of them completely unharmed. Characters beat the living crap out of other people and barely (if ever) get bruised or cut up. Super wild car chases take place in huge cities yet there are never any civilians or cops ANYWHERE.
And yet-and I can't believe I'm saying this-I enjoyed Furious 7. It is what it is and doesn't care about being ridiculous. It just wants to entertain with huge, magnificent action sequences, and it does. And best of all, this movie has heart. We all know what happened to Paul Walker two years ago, and director James Wan honors him in the sweetest way.
Am I uncontrollably excited for the next Fast and the Furious movie? No. Not at all, but I can't say I won't enjoy it. Not just yet...
