Review of Gangs of New York (2002) by Elijah C — 04 Jun 2015

A motion picture from a legendary director. That falls heavily on being on one of his best works. I'm not saying that I didn't like the movie no. I thought it was a well done film. And yeah deserved to have a shot to become a movie.

Not really a waste of time in my opinion. Like the positives in this film is the brilliant acting. Daniel Day Lewis, Leonardo Dicaprio, and Cameron Diaz are absolutely phenomenal in this motion picture.

The other thing that I can take as a positive is the chemistry between characters. It felt like real relationships throughout the film. The cinematography is great with steady hand directing. Great character development even though you as an audience almost root for the villain in this film because he is so well developed as a real character.

The one battle scene towards the end was pretty well choreographed. Deaths seems realistic and brutal. Now for the in your face negatives. Let me say the plot in my opinion is weak, unbelievable, uninteresting, and pretty generic.

To add on, the film has a crazy love plot towards Leonardo Dicaprio's character and Cameron Diaz's character. To sum it all up for this situation that it is really forced like crammed in the film.

Just not believable nor interesting between these two characters together even though they are well developed characters. Scenes seems to drag on and on. It is too long of a movie for sure. I say this movie should've ended 25 minutes before it's almost 3 hour runtime.

The script itself is lacking from real perspective of I guess you cab say "suspenseful" dialogue. The film at timed is very predictable. And to tell you the truth the film itself in scenes I didn't feel any tension.

The movie throughout the end seemed to bore me a little. And I can say towards the final climax I just cared less about the movie. "Gangs Of New York" is a disappointment to me in general because I was expecting more.

But it does has it's redeeming qualities to it. Overall I can say this movie is decent for a once of a lifetime watching. I will give "Gangs Of New York" a C+ grading.
