A well-rounded character study, which takes a good share of creative risks and doesn't seem to hold much back where the main character's dark side's concerned. This combination is already rare enough.

But then you factor in this being a modern biopic of a huge celebrity - a black icon at that - and this film really does prove itself a unicorn.
