Review of Get Out (2017) by Archit B — 02 Jan 2019
A decent movie, relatively entertaining, but essentially a thriller-by-the-numbers with a little (and I do mean only a little) comedy thrown in. It has a great (but unoriginal) premise and good acting all around, but the thrills are lacklustre and the suspense is thin.
It is also important to note that all the subtext other reviewers have mentioned regarding race is very America-centric, and will likely be lost on international viewers. I believe that being unable to fully understand and appreciate this subtext was the main reason I was left feeling like this was just a good movie, rather than an excellent one.
