Review of Get Out (2017) by Marc5477 — 19 May 2017
Racism in a nutshell. If the colors were reversed, this movie would have a 1 rating but it seems to me that other races dont mind when society is blatantly racist towards whites. How do you think skin color racism started to begin with? It starts with jokes, then it transforms to fake fact in the minds of the uneducated, and then turns into a divide. Movies like this one, are the first signs of step 2. If you don't find this movie insulting to modern humanity, then you are a deranged doorknob. Anyway, on to the plot.
The movie itself is not horror. It might be a thriller if you can place your brain on permanent shutdown. They traded magic with fake psychology and cutting into brains which is complete non-sense. Actually, a otherworldly demon possession is more likely than this pseudo-science drivel. A demon would also be a lot more menacing and frankly entertaining because this movie is a complete snore-fest. The characters are cliche; you have your doubting naive victim, the stoic black guy, the cynical comic relief, scary psychologist complete with their psycho family, and of course the supporting cast which do nothing important but take up time. There is no mystery in this movie, there were two possible outcomes and you knew them 10 minutes into to the movie. Its completely predictable. The comic relief is in the form of tongue in cheek dialog, similar to what you would see in shows like the Evil Dead (like the character Ash) which is not a bad thing, but again, unoriginal. All in all, its just a bore. The ones voting it high are either paid marketers (of which there are thousands) or doorknobs who only voted it high because they thought the plot was "different." It isnt. Skip it.
