Review of Ghost in the Shell (2017) by Collin C — 08 Apr 2017
As a fan of the various films and series that proceed it, I felt a twinge of dread when I first heard that they were going to make a live action of Ghost in the Shell. As time went on I realized that there had been various re-imaginings of the story, and that in order to give this film a fair shake I had to view it as just another retelling.
I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by the final product. The visuals of course were the main focus of the film, and those were amazing in my opinion. I saw some plot holes here and there, and there was a few areas where I had to suspend a little disbelief. I have to say though, It was never pushed to the point that I wasn't enjoying the experience.
The acting I thought was very well done. I was a little sad that I recognized some of the traits in the characters that mirrored their amine counter parts, but they where never fully explored. This is understandable as you can only put so much material into so much time.
I will say if you go in expecting something new, this can be an enjoyable film for the fans. For those who never watched the shows or read the manga, there are some aspects that could have been explained better, but for the most part can be followed.
