Ghost in the Shell.

3 out of 5 stars.

In the distant future a woman becomes a sexy robocop-woman and with the help of her tough as nails partner, a robot eyed Dolph Lundgren and her police boss, an angry japanese guy in desperate need of a hairstylist, The team works together to unravel the mysteries surrounding to robo-womans mysterious origins.

The original anime that this live action adaptation is based off of was released in the year of 1995. It was revered by anime enthusiast as the second coming of storytelling. Hailed for its ideas and overall concept as a visualistic masterpiece.

I on the other hand found it to be bizarre and offsetting. I asked myself several important questions after my initial viewing â??Why is she so sexy?â?? â??Where are her clothes?â?? â??Where is her nippples for God's sake!â??

The idea of the line between man and machine being blurred is not a new concept, you could go all the way back to Fritz Lang's Metropolis in 1927 for early film citing purposes but then you have Robocop, Transcendence, Terminator 2, Ex Machina etc etc.

I could go on with citing elements borrowed for the plot of Ghost in the Shell but my point being, if you're basing your opinions on this live-action adaptation of the â??originalityâ?? of it all...don't because it never was original to begin with.

So after that being laid out as the basis for my review, Ghost in The Shell 2017 boils down to about two hours of a very visual smooth riding popcorn affair. There's not much depth or intrigue other than a few traditional tropes of the genre thrown into the mix but the film kept me going and I kept munching my popcorn.

The performances were decent, Scarjo was playing a robot woman so, her cold monotone normal persona fit the bill for once. She has stealth skin so most of the time she runs around without clothes, so you get to see some serious curves which is nice, yet weird. The bad guy was menacing when he needed to be and the rest of the cast was supporting enough when needed.

I can't really dislike this film, it looked good and entertained me and in my opinion didn't have much going for it to begin with story wise anyway. The only driving purpose of this movies existence was its rapid cult fandom, a following that ironically was one of the major contributing factors of its box office murder.

Like it or hate it, maybe even love it if you please, either way you will most likely eventually need to kill some time and I reccomed you at least see it.
