Review of Godzilla (2014) by Brett H — 10 Mar 2017
Epic is really the only word that can describe Hollywood's second and infinitely better take on the classic Toho monster, and with today's special effects it delivers awe-inspiring visuals and mayhem! Godzilla has never looked so massive and frightening and the filmmakers did a magnificent job portraying the scale of these creatures and just how powerful they can be.
It's no secret that there's more than one monster in the film, and I have to say I liked the designs which were very reminiscent of Starship Troopers and Cloverfield alike. The cast is stellar, with Bryan Cranston being the big star, though I wish there could have been a tad bit more development with the rest of the characters (particularly Elizabeth Olson).
I loved the slow-burn "Jaws"-approach where you really don't see Godzilla in full form until the last 20 minutes and when he throws down, HOLY CRAP! There was a subtle nod to Mothra, which I hope entails further installments, because Godzilla is back, baby!
