Review of Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief (2015) by Samuel M — 10 Apr 2016
I'd already looked into Scientology quite a bit before watching this so it didn't really offer many new insights. Nonetheless, the institution is quite secretive and this combination of interviews with those involved is quite interesting as a result.
I don't have a whole lot to say about this- it's really exactly what you'd expect it to be. It's relatively creepy but, that shouldn't really come as a surprise given the subject matter. It certainly feels like a HBO documentary rather than a film for cinematic release and so it lacks some flair and style but that's not realy what it's going for anyway.
Probably best-suited for people who don't know anything about Scientology and are looking for an introduction- for those who've seen similar works already, there's not much new information here but it's still relatively interesting.
