Review of Gorbaciof (2010) by Phil N — 06 Mar 2011
Gorbaciof (so named due to the birthmark on his forehead) looks after the prison petty cash and likes to gamble. When he falls for a Chinese waitress he starts to embezzle funds and slowly spirals into trouble as he attempts to give her a better life.
Reminiscent of the work of Kim Ki-duk with its minimalist dialogue and portrayal of loners and culture clashes, Servillo struts a commanding figure in the title role. A shame then that the story feels a little too familiar and predictable.
