Review of Grace Is Gone (2007) by Frank R — 06 Jul 2009
Oh, if only this movie was as good as it could have been.
Sadly, this is another movie that I just couldn't force myself to suffer through. Not because of the subject matter (an admirable one admittedly), but because of the painfully poor performances by the girls playing Cusack's daughters. Thirty-five minutes into the movie, girls are packed for the road-trip, and I decided I couldn't bear to watch another hour of a movie where 2/3 of the cast were just pretending to be actresses.
This movie had 4-star written all over it. And would have been a no-star movie, but I had to give it one because, well, it is Cusack after all, and any movie with Cusack in it has to have SOME redeeming qualities, right?
(Side note: opening shot of the movie pops up on the TV and I immediately turned to my wife and said, "Oooh...you know it's gonna be a serious movie when it starts out THIS grainy.").
