Review of Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) by Michael M — 08 Dec 2015
Marvel's weird gamble that paid off extravagantly. GotG is a weird contrast, being both refreshingly original and yet rooted in commercialism. Still, aside from Thanos sliding his way through the plot now and then, it's quite different from the other Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
It's goofier for one, having just as much comedy as it does action. It's also not really a superhero movie, and more of a space opera in the vein of Star Wars. In fact, it very much feels like a modern day Star Wars, and I'm so okay with that.
The characters are all memorable and lovable, the action is a spectacle, and it's funny as hell. Great film, great time.
