It was, of course, an impossible task for Vol. 2 to live up to the hype and pop culture love of the first movie. Star-Lord's mixtape did just not hit home for me with the same familiar groove. Sure Baby Groot is adorable, and many jokes land, and the action is fairly exciting.
Getting to know these characters a bit better and expanding the roster of anti-heroes with Yondu, Nebula, and Mantis was necessary before the whole crew appears in Avengers: Infinity War. However, I was feeling fatigue with the garish, campy, intergalactic family drama.
