Review of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) by Gamed2Long — 04 May 2017
Funniest movie of the year so far. Visually beautiful. I'm not big on 3D but I am quite happy I saw it in 3D. The ultra neon 70 vibe works better and its up there with Avatar in terms of use of the 3D space (instead of 2D layers like a lot of films).
Plus, given the tone of the film they could use the full spectrum of colors to render beautiful exotic worlds. It is a well balanced ensemble film. My only critique with the cast is Karen Gillian. She was great in Dr.
Who, but she didn't have much to do in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1, and her character is even more 1 dimensional here. Everyone else was great. It felt like character building was given preference over plot and that caused things to slow down at times.
But they are good characters, and they did it well. Sometimes the humor was a bit forced but overall more jokes paid off than not. The opening sequence was great, and overall I really enjoyed the film.
Is it better than the original? Probably not. But its a worthy sequel.
